Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to energy profiling and recently started using the Otii Arc to measure the energy consumption of my BLE-enabled IoT sensor. I am trying to optimize battery life.., but I am a bit confused about interpreting the current spikes and idle periods in the Otii software.

This is my setup:

- BLE sensor (custom board)

- 3V coin cell simulation through Otii Arc

- Logging data via Otii software on Windows

The device wakes up every 5 minutes to transmit data and then returns to sleep mode. However, the sleep current seems higher than expected (around 100µA instead of ~10µA).

I have some questions:

- How to identify if leakage current is from the BLE module or other components?

- Any best practices for setting up triggers in Otii for long-term logging?

- Is it possible to use scripting in Otii to automate tests?

When I searched on the forum for the solution related to my query, I got this thread [https://forum.qoitech.com/t/powering-and-measuring-embedded-device-energy-consumption-with-otii-](https://forum.qoitech.com/t/powering-and-measuring-embedded-device-energy-consumption-with-otii/516)[machine-learning-course-in-bangalore](https://www.igmguru.com/machine-learning-ai/machine-learning-training-course-in-bangalore)
but couldn’t get enough help. Appreciate any guidance or shared experiences!

Thanks
Marcelo

Hi Marcello,

With the sub-system measurement you can check parts of the board and see if there are any unwanted current consumption:

> **[Subsystem power measurement of embedded devices - Qoitech](https://www.qoitech.com/usecases/power-profile-subsystem/)**
>
> Subsystem power measurement, alongside total DUT power consumption, provides more precise insight into energy consumption and efficiency.

This requires an external shunt resistor.

With Automation Toolbox license, it is possible to set up triggers and to automate tests.

There are support for python, C# and other scripting languages, I suggest that you have a look here, to get started:

> **[Python scripting | Qoitech User Manual](https://docs.qoitech.com/user-manual/advanced-guides/python-scripting)**

Contact us if you would like to get a 14-days trial license of the Automation Toolbox.

Best regards,
