For satellite IoT, the antenna is a bigger energy lever than for terrestrial networks — with no firmware changes and no reduction in reporting frequency.

Four antennas on a Nordic nRF9151-SMA DK, Skylo GEO link with a Monogoto SIM, current on VDD\_nRF at 3.6 V via Otii Ace Pro. Identical 465-byte payload, runs back to back, same 0.5 m SMA extension on all four. Transmission energy only.

| Antenna | Energy (mWh) | vs reference |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Reference (DK-supplied) | 27.8 | 1× |
| KYOCERA AVX X9003334 | 14.1 | 2× lower |
| KYOCERA AVX 9002418L0-L16L | 2.36 | 11× lower |
| KYOCERA AVX P822601 | 7.15 | 4× lower |

The 9002418L0-L16L stands out for its polarization. It is the only circularly polarized option, so it matches the satellite and avoids losing about 3 dB. However, this means it is not suitable for dual-mode.

Two of the antennas were tested on evaluation boards, so the ground plane and enclosure could change your exact results. The order of performance, though, should still apply.
