After I pressed and held the reset button on its back until an audible click occurred, the Arc has gone dark. No serial port visible (Linux), no blinking LED, no nothing.
What state have I entered, and how do I exit it?

When you push the reset button at the same time as you plug in USB, you erase the flash.
In Otii 3 software, the Arc should then be visible as “Arc in DFU mode”.
Just right click on the “Arc in DFU mode” and select Upgrade firmware.
Make sure that you are using the latest Otii 3 software before doing this, you will then automatically get the latest firmware,
