Battery charging

Hi,

can we safely use Otii ARC, connected as battery power source, with solar powered node, which can charge the battery (i.e. are the main output protected for input current) ?

And when using battery simulation, is there a way to measure battery charging current ? It seems not possible to me, but I want to be sure

Thanks !

Best,

Hi,

You can safely “charge” the output of the Arc as long as the maximum voltage (5V) isn’t exceeded. When a voltage higher than the setpoint is input then the Arc will attempt to bring it down to the setpoint by sinking current. This will generate a negative current that will show up in your Main Current measurement, which can then be measured just as any other current.

Hi,

thanks for your answer.

How much can it sink ?

In supply mode ‘power box’ it seems to be limited to -19.8mA. Can this limit be increased with premium license and battery simulation ? Or is it hardware limitation ?

Thank you !

The current sink limit of the hardware is 2.5A. Currently the sinking done in voltage source mode is set to the same amount of mA as the voltage difference between the setpoint and the actual voltage, up to a limit of 500mA. To be able to sink this much current you may have to turn auto-range off in the Current tab in Project settings. Using the premium scripting feature you can control the current sink and sink up to 2.5A.
